Hotels Alleviating Poverty

The International Tourism Partnership is spearheading a poverty alleviation initiative with the international sustainable development organisation Deutsche Gesellschaft für Technische Zusammenarbeit GmbH (GTZ). This collaboration aims to develop effective strategies for the tourism industry to address the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) (with a particular focus on poverty alleviation) through issues such as employability, supply chains and local economic development. This will be done by taking existing good practice from the hotel industry, publishing generic guidelines and building transferable models for wider international use.

Tourism and Human Rights

In a business context advancing human rights is both about managing risk and realising new opportunities. By respecting, protecting and promoting human rights, companies can help contribute both to a stable operating environment and the well-being of those within their spheres of influence and responsibility. The International Tourism Partnership, in an ongoing collaboration with the UNWTO, continues to lead efforts to create a framework to assist the tourism industry address human rights within their own business operations and develop principles for the industry.
